Bridge Sounding |
B R I D G E S O U N D I N G P H A S E 2 Architectural music composed by Stan Hansel ( 2002, revised 2004 ) At North Bank,Whittlesey, Near Peterborough UK
Phase 1 took place successfully on this bridge last July as part of the Peterborough Environment Festival. Sequences of sounds, which I call forcefields, were set up and,in a way, they have been continuing ever since,as they merely articulate the natural sounds this bridge makes. This afternoon,Phase 2 continues with these sequences. The music opens with a short 'Elicitation' . This is quietly played and sparsely notated, seeking to bring to mind the same energies heard and felt in Phase 1. The main movement continues the actual forcefields heard last July. A further 'Elicitation'seeks to enhance these sounds mentally. The music is written for violin ,pipe organ sounds( reminiscent of the hollow nature of the railings, and played here on electronic keyboard ) and includes two cyclists who ring their bells in sequence. The weather, too,is heard as part of the piece. This music continues for as long as the bridge stands….. Violin: Roger Stimson
