'BORSCHT' (1999)
In this solo cello work, entitled 'Borscht' (as in the soup) Chinese Opera was a big influence, not only with the use of pentatonic melodic fragments, but also in the employment of artificial-harmonic glissandi which are intended to imitate the Chinese gong. Click on the audio symbol above to hear the opening. The piece is in two short movements, a Prelude and a Mazurka (the latter being about 15 seconds long ...) The piece in total is about 5 minutes in length. |
