This work can be performed either as a formal concert piece or a staged and more dramatic piece. This performance is staged and uses directions stated by the composer in the preface notes to the score, whilst the additional vocal elements and the control of a metronome are given as precise instructions within the score.

As in the composers' own articulation of the visual aspect, a collage of the highly dramatic scenes from 'Nosferatu' by Murnau (1921) is projected onto a screen behind the pianist.
