While still young and in the heady days of the late sixties and early seventies, I started composing a small series of improvisatory pieces all given the serial letter Z. Thus, Z1 was a graph while others tried to explore other possibilities.

My forcefield pieces grew in the eighties. At that time I wanted somehow to expand upon my sequences and go further into insinuating their forces.

I, therefore, came to the two section (or two movement) structure where the first movement presents the materials (ie. the forcefields) but the second seeks to amplify the forces by causing a kind of friction with largely irrelevant materials. This was the origin of my Psychic Music. The two movement structure received the elucidation of Prime and Elicitation. the origin of the word Prime came from a conversation I once had with a film producer who asked me to "prime" someone "up" about some new project or other - in other words, the Prime in my music is there to set up the forces in the piece. the elicitation refers to the materialisation of mental energies already setup in the Prime.

I have come round to the idea of musical forces existing before sounds are heard. Stockhausen analysed the smallest particle of music to be the impulse but I would see this potentially much further - before there can be an impulse there is already something else present - energy. My work seeks to elicit these energies that exist just before sound structures take place.

Other interests extend into the sphere of education where one of my main concerns in recent years has been to encourage complete beginners to take up a keyboard interest. Please visit his website for electronic keyboard lessons should you be interested in some unusual approaches. As a Roman Catholic musician I have become interested in the Nigerian Catholic Church and involved myself with preparations for masses said in memory of the recently beatified Nigerian monk, Cyprian Tansi. I have always maintained a very strong interest in languages of the world and have proposed a decipherment of the mysterious Cretan artifact known as the Phaistos Disk. I have made this available for scrutiny - simply click on Phaistos Disk.
